Marion Borst’s paintings are made to create a mood in each piece of artwork that conveys as sense of intimacy with the image. Much of her work attempts to express quite, tranquility, thoughtful relaxation, and a restful environment without stress in the artwork. An intricate concept within the artwork is the interaction of objects through their physical proximity to one another, which cause them to form symbolic relationships. This interaction between the objects is focused on a sense of movement and the importance of negative space in the images. Having dark contrasting shadows is often seen in the work to create high contrast with objects of importance.
Marion’s work is frequently created with techniques consisting of thin translucent layers of watercolor or oils that pay attention to the details of color and realism. She has used these ideas to create several series:
